BREAKING NEWS!! Rapper Olamide At Risk Of N3 Million Fine, One-Year Jail Term Over ‘Wo’ Video (Full Gist)
Nigeria Indigenous rapper, Olamide Adedeji may be at risk of a N3 million fine and one-year jail term for promoting the use of tobacco in his recently released video, ‘Wo’. According to Dailypost.
The federal ministry of health had notified the public that the rapper had violated the 2015 tobacco act, warning that the video had “dangerous public health content”.
The ministry wrote on Twitter,
“The public is informed of the dangerous public health content & violation of Tobacco Control Act 2015 in “Wo” by @olamide_YBNL#ClearTheAir.
“The content & video contains scenes that violate the ban on Tobacco Advertising, Promotion & Sponsorship provision of the act #ClearTheAir.”
The 28-year-old rapper, who is signed to his own record label, YBNL, had returned to Ladi Lak in Bariga where he was raised to shoot the video of his latest single.
According to the 2015 Tobacco Control Act, it is prohibited to promote or advertise tobacco or tobacco products except between a manufacturer, retailer and consenting persons above 18 years of age.
“No person shall promote or advertise tobacco or tobacco products in any form.
“No person shall engage or participate in any tobacco advertising, promotion or sponsorship as a media or event organizer, celebrity or other participant,” it read.
According to the 2015 law, anyone who violates the law faces the risk of a fine and jail term of not more than one year.
Person that produces or publishes advertising, promotion or sponsorship content shall attract a fine of not less than N3,000,000 and a term of imprisonment of not more than one year.

Today, President Muhammadu Buhari met Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and security chiefs behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting was Buhari’s first official engagement after returning to the country earlier in the day.
It was held inside his official residence.

“The way we are going about spending all our revenue to pay overheads, we will not develop. And we will have ourselves to blame. Ninety per cent of revenue is used to pay overheads, allowances, salaries and not much is left for capital development. In a situation like that, we have to rethink.
“It is even worse for the National Assembly. They will abuse me again but I will never stop talking about them. They are a bunch of unarmed robbers.
“They are one of the highest paid in the world where we have 75 per cent of our people living in abject poverty. They will abuse me tomorrow and if they don’t, maybe they are sleeping. The behaviour and character of the National Assembly should be condemned and roundly condemned.”
